Cane Fu – Self-Defense That Changes Lives

Cane Fu – Self-Defense That Changes Lives

Imagine the scene:  In a small town, a retired military veteran named David was known for his expertise in Cane Fu.  One evening a group of troublemakers targeted an innocent bystander.  The victim’s anxious eyes darted back and forth looking for a police officer, but found none.  Upon taking all of this in, David decided to intervene.  He swiftly used his cane to disarm and neutralize the attackers with precise strikes and defensive maneuvers. The Cane Fu David used turned around a potentially deadly situation.

The above story is a mix of experiences shared with us at the American Cane System. It doesn’t always happen like this, but this type of scary scene plays out more often than it once did. This is especially true as more seniors train in cane self defense; transforming their canes to defensive instruments. David didn’t just happen to know what to do when he encountered the aggressive thugs. He spent months training with Grand Cane Master Mark Shuey, until the necessary strikes and block movements became second nature. Though he didn’t notice at first, as he continued to train in Cane Fu, David became more fit, more flexible and stronger.  With confidence in his moves and the ability to carry them out, David was able to protect someone more vulnerable.
