What is Cane Ja?
Share
Cane Ja is one of a wealth of cane based martial art schools within The American Cane System. The Cane Ja system is not for those who are focused on the exercises, or on earning rank belts. It is for students who just want to learn tactical combat techniques with a cane. Given that there are thousands of American Cane System techniques using the cane as a weapon, there is still plenty of material to learn. In fact, there are at least 26 different ways just to hold the cane, according to Grand Master Mark Shuey. Each different method of holding the cane offers multiple ways you can use that cane to defend yourself.
Grand Master Shuey refers to Cane Ja as the down and dirty school of self-defense. The more you practice these techniques, the more likely your muscles will respond when you need to defend yourself or someone you care about with a cane if threatened. In Cane Ja, the focus is on self-defense techniques allowing for multiple attackers. This is because recent trends show a “pack” mentality among thugs. Cane Ja defensive move techniques include cane moves up for close, mid-range and full range attack situations.
In Cane Ja, the focus is purely on the street fighting moves of self defense using a cane to your advantage. There will be no question of what to do when attacked. This self-defense training includes tactics for defense against multiple attackers, defense against an assailant armed with a gun, defense on public transportation, female specific defense against a male assailant, pressure point defense and many more self-defense technique variations that could save your life and wellbeing.
Other Cane Training in The American Cane System, such as Cane Chi and Cane Fu include philosophy and exercises along with the cane based martial arts training. It can sometimes seem like you are playing. In truth, you are training your body for every defensive move, adding balance and strength and freeing your mind to focus on the goals. For those who just want to learn the techniques, Cane Ja is the answer, according to Grandmaster Mark Shuey.
There are those who are still not sure they want to carry a cane. Grand Master Shuey recommends getting three combat canes, and keeping one in your master bedroom, one in your car and one near your front door. One the other hand, the right cane does not age a person, it is a conversation starter.
